The Story Behind Split Ends

Let’s talk about one of the biggest buzzkills in the hair world, split ends. If your hair ends look like tiny little forks or frayed threads, that’s your hair politely telling you it’s been through a lot.
Split ends happen when the outer protective layer of the hair, the cuticle, gets worn down and the inner strand starts to separate.
Face it, your hair is tired and one of the biggest culprits is being dry and brittle. When hair doesn’t have enough moisture, it becomes fragile and snaps or splits more easily. Add in heat styling and daily brushing, and those ends are basically waving a white flag.
Then there’s hair dye and bleaching, which we love for transforming looks but can definitely stress your strands if they’re not cared for properly. Chemical processes open the hair cuticle so color can get inside, but that also means the hair can lose moisture and strength over time.
Relaxers, perms, and other chemical treatments do the same thing while changing the structure of the hair. This can make ends weaker if they aren’t deeply conditioned.
Even little habits, like rough towel drying or tight ponytails, can slowly wear down your ends.
The good news is healthy hair is totally achievable with hydration and regular trims. Then replenish, protect, repeat.
