Beach Day Hair Talk

Updated: Mar 21

Healthy beach hair is all about keeping your strands strong while enjoying that effortless surfer girl aura.

Sunlight and surrounding waters help create those natural beach waves, but they can also leave hair dry if you’re not careful.

Let’s dive deeper on how to hydrate before heading out.

Saltwater vs Freshwater

Saltwater does more to your hair than just enhance texture. Salt pulls moisture from the hair shaft, which is why beach hair can feel gritty, dry, or tangled after a swim in the ocean.

By comparison, fresh water (like lakes or pools without salt) usually causes swelling of the hair strand rather than dehydration, which can make hair feel softer but sometimes frizzier.

Other environmental factors like UV rays, wind, and sand also rough up the hair cuticle.

Loose braids, buns, and easy beach hairstyles are fun ways to help reduce tangles during a long day by the water.

Another way is to rinse your hair in fresh water right after the beach. This removes salt, sand, and mineral buildup.

Always apply a plant based conditioner or hair mask to restore hydration.

Then moisturize and seal your hair with a lightweight serum or natural oil.  A great sealant also works overtime to prevent split ends and keeps the hair camera ready.

These steps to the perfect beach hair care routine will keep your strands healthy all spring and summer long.
