Have you ever looked at the ends of your hair and thought, “Why do these look like a tiny frayed rope? Congratulations, you’ve met the infamous split end.
Split ends happen when the protective outer layer of your hair, the cuticle, gets worn down from heat styling, color treatments, brushing too aggressively, or just everyday life. Once that cuticle is damaged, the hair strand literally splits into two, or sometimes three, little branches at the end. Not cute.
Think of your hair like your favorite pair of jeans: the more friction and wear it gets, the more likely the hem is going to fray. The same thing happens to your hair strands when they’re thirsty for moisture and a trim.
Preventing split ends is way easier than dealing with a head full of them. So, good conditioner, heat protectant, and being gentle with your hair goes a long way.
Healthy hair is about maintenance and a little love. Treat your ends well and they’ll return the favor with shine, bounce, and fewer drama filled splits.
